Vinyl Shopping

Sunday, 7 May 2017

Music is clearly a big passion of mine, and collecting vinyl has literally developed into a hobby for me over the past few months - therefore, I am always buying new albums and finding new vinyl purchases, and as I have been doing every so often, I thought I would again compile a little post about some of my recently bought records today...

New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies

Not only does this album have the coolest cover ever ( I really do love it), but the music featured is also pretty fantastic. My love of New Order pretty much started with an adoration of their famous song 'Blue Monday', and it was when I delved deeper into their musical catalogue that I discovered that I liked a lot of their other songs too.

'Power, Corruption and Lies' stood out particularly to me as an album that I really wanted to get on vinyl due to the fact that it features so many great songs - particular favourites include 'Age of Consent', 'The Village', and also '5-8-6', and it must be said that since I got this album around a month or so ago, I have really been loving listening to it, as it serves as great music whilst revising or getting ready.

The Stones Roses - The Stones Roses

I honestly think that this album by The Stone Roses is probably something that everyone with a record player should probably try and buy, as it is quite simply a classic album by a really great band! All too many times I simply passed this album in HMV and didn't think to buy it, but after numerous listens to all of the songs on Spotify, I finally got round to making the purchase a few weeks ago - since then, I have been pretty obsessed with this album and all that it has to offer, as with classic songs such as 'I Wanna Be Adored' and 'She Bangs the Drums' featured, I do find that listening to this album can pretty much always put me in a good mood.

Duran Duran - Duran Duran

Being a lover of all things 80's music, I must say that I'm quite surprised that it took me so long to get myself a Duran Duran album. I do own a few 7' singles by them, but in all honesty had been biding my time and waiting to try and find their original album, 'Duran Duran', as it contains my favourite Duran Duran song 'Planet Earth'.

Finally, when I was in Edinburgh, I found the album I had been waiting so long to find in a rather cool shop called Fopp. Since getting my record home, I have been loving listening to all the songs featured, and was particularly excited to find that the version I own also comes with a 12" featuring extended versions of some of the songs!

Echo And The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain

It was watching Top of the Pops repeats from the 1980's that made me aware of Echo and the Bunnymen, and since hearing some of their music on the show a few months back I have really been enjoying listening to their collection of albums on Spotify. Therefore, when I went to Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago and stumbled across one of their singles, 'The Cutter', I was very happy indeed! I must say I was even happier though to discover that they actually stocked my favourite Echo and the Bunnymen album, 'Ocean Rain' on Amazon - of course, I just had to buy it, and since it arrived at my house little under a week ago, I have loved being able to finally play this album on my turntable, with my most frequently played song obviously being 'The Killing Moon', which is just a classic.

The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta

As a big fan of The Police and their music, I was also pretty happy to discover their album 'Zenyatta Mondatta' for just £5 in a lovely little record store in Edinburgh - due to the fact that albums by The Police are quite difficult to come across, and also because I already have a couple of their albums (which I love), I just had to get this one too!

After a few listens to this album, I must say that it has quickly crept up to probably become my favourite album by The Police, as although I always used to rave about 'Synchronicity', this recent addition just seems to have more of an upbeat feel to it, with old favourites such as 'Don't Stand So Close to Me', and also new discoveries such as 'Canary in a Coal Mine' getting a lot of play on my turntable.

I hope you all enjoyed having a read about my recent vinyl purchases... please do recommend any music to me in the comments that you think I would like, as I am always on the lookout for different things to listen too!
